Happy almost Christmas, everyone! I know it's still over two weeks away, but I'm feeling Christmasy, and given I only have a little bit of work to finish, I probably won't be back between now and 2020, so I thought I'd post a little update.
Before I get to what's been going on recently, I just wanted to let everyone know I have a new release. My Nutcracker Retelling, short-story, SOLSTICE SPELL, is now available on Amazon.
Okay, now onto the update.
Work continues to go well. I'm proofreading for fellow Caleo Press author Lina Jubilee, who writes an urban-fantasy, reverse harem romance series called Succubus Sirens. I almost feel bad charging, because I'm enjoying the stories so much. They're like X-Men, with added eleven-aliens and of course, a reverse harem romance (one woman and four lovers, in a polyamorous relationship). The books are sexy as hell, fun to read with witty characters, and the lore/word-building is excellent. I've just started the second, and I said I'd have it back to Lina by the end of the month; I can't wait to get stuck in.
I've also mostly finished my ghostwrite for HotGhostWriters - I just have to make some final changes at the client's request. The whole experience was fantastic. The client gave me a basic plot sketch, then I can up with a chapter plan, then once that was approved, I started writing. I wrote about a chapter a day, and then the client would check over the chapter, make suggestions and changes, and I'd move onto the next chapter. I very smooth, enjoyable process. I hope all projects I'm assigned are as easy as that one.
As I said in my intro I'll probably take the rest of the year (aside from the proofread for Lina) off and get back to it in early Jan when youngest goes back to school. I can't wait to see what my next project is. I'd be totally up for working with the same client again if she has more books in the series planned, but I'd also be interested in writing something different too. I'm dying to write a paranormal romance!
All in all, everything is ticking along nicely.
Writing was put on hold while I worked on the ghostwriting project, though I did manage to write about 20k words on a LGBT romance before I got the assignment. Although I haven't completed anything this year (outside of ghostwrites, of course,) I've made some progress on a number of different stories, so I have plenty of WIPs to choose from. Next year, I aim to focus on just one ...
Year Review & 2020 Goals
In terms of releases or original work, I didn't achieve much this year, but that was due to a number of factors, including the fallout from leaving CQ and ongoing health issues. I feel like I have a much better handle on my health now, and career wise, I'm in a much, much better position than ever. It helps that Hubby is earning the main wage to cover expenses, so mine is 'bonus' money, meaning I can focus on building up my career.
Between ghostwriting, managing the Animus Ferrum and Caleo Press social media accounts, and proofreading, I'm so happy. In a lot of ways happier than I ever was at CQ. Not counting the bad years -because who could be happy under those circumstances? - CQ was great, and I learned a lot, but I much prefer earning from fiction writing, than I do book marketing/ PR. It feels more comfortable and rewarding.
If I can get at least one ghostwriting project every six weeks, that will be ideal. The first one only had a sixteen day time limit, but it was only 30k. I imagine longer pieces will have a longer deadline. When I was writing for Eventide Press, I had around two months to complete a 60k story. I don't know if HGW will give me quite that long, but we will see...
Hopefully I will be able to better manage my time, because I *really* want to release something in 2020, and I've finally settled on *what*.
I will be releasing my young-adult paranormal romance, CUPID, on September 8th, all going well. The reason for that specific date? Snowy Wings Publishing is releasing a Greek mythology themed anthology on September 1, and I wanted to take part. As I was looking through what myths hadn't already been claimed, I noticed the myth of Eros and Psyche was available, which is just perfect, as I can totally turn it into a Cupid-prequel, showing how the antagonist came to be. I cannot wait.
If I can manage my time, I'd also love to revise and release Every Moment With You. The story is complete, though it needs editing, and I think some of it needs changing. One element I *know* I want to drop, the other I need to refine to make it better. But otherwise, it's almost ready to go. Hopefully I can release that, too.
That's All Folks
I think that about covers it for this update, so I will sign off here, and return (hopefully) in January.
Until then, have an excellent Christmas and a fantastic New Year!
