No, I haven't turned into Jack Skellington (although I am listening to Halloween music!). I just thought it was a fitting title to this month's blog as I'm actually posting early! *gasps* So, what's been going on in my 'working' list since last month? Read on to find out .... Work
I finished my ghostwriting project at the end of July, and sent it over to the project manager. It took a little while to be paid, as the producer of that specific book was away, but after a little nudge the other producer (the one whom I've had contact with) paid me and let me know they don't have anything else right now, but they'll be in touch soon with another project (it's a sequel to my first project.) While more money would have great, I actually didn't mind having the time off. I finished a proofread for Immortal Works (excellent middle-grade novel about a girl who sees ghosts), and spent some time thinking about what I want to do next. I had another call from my adviser at the job centre to see if I'd made a decision about going forward setting up my own business, and the answer is YES! So, I have an appointment with him on September 13 to get the ball rolling. I'm not 100% sure HOW I'm going to get clients, but I know I want to focus my efforts, for the foreseeable future, on becoming a professional ghostwriter. I'll likely be freelancing, and searching for projects/ clients, rather than them coming to me, but I also want to discuss with my adviser about setting up a website, and advertising my services too. We'll see... The main thing is, I'm really excited to try and make it work as a professional ghostwriter. I'll still carry on my social media duties for Animus Ferrum and Caleo, too, as well as proofreading for Immortal Works, because I greatly enjoy those things. I also subscribed to NeoStock Elite, to take advantage of their Photoshop tutorials. It's something I've always wanted to learn, and I figure I can learn how to make my own covers, and perhaps even get good enough to sell covers. I feel really lucky that Hubby is earning enough for us to be comfortable, so I can focus on building my own career. Writing I've also had a lot of thoughts about writing. I have SIX story ideas in draft/ note form and none of them are sticking. The one thing they all have in common? They're all paranormal/ fantasy in some way. It made me wonder if I'm struggling with the world building elements, and that's why I can't write. Incidentally, the two ghost writes I've done were both contemporary romance. Then I had an idea for a contemporary romance, and it revitalised my enthusiasm, so that's what I'm going forward with. I want to treat September as a sort of NaNoWriMo (as I don't know if I'll have a GW project in November), and I'm just ironing out the plot and making a chapter plan right now, with the aim of getting to it on Monday. Here's the rough blurb, though I'm sure it'll be improved upon as I write. When Jessica Logan returns to her hometown after being exiled ten-years previously, her hopes are to reconcile with her estranged parents, introduce them to her daughter, Lily, and build a better life for herself and her little girl. What she doesn’t count on is reuniting with high school best friend Erik Jansen. Erik is also returning home, hoping to heal from discovering his long-term girlfriend has been married for the duration of their relationship. The two friends soon pick up where they left off when teens, but when Erik unexpectedly kisses Jessica, it throws her life into confusion. She didn’t come home to find love, and certainly not with her best friend. How can she give herself to someone when ninety percent of her life is such a mess? Matters are made worse when Jessica’s baby daddy, who was previously uninterested in having a relationship with his daughter, arrives on the scene and starts throwing his weight around. All Jessica wants is a quite life, but when Erik’s ex also arrives in town, claiming she’s divorcing her husband and wants to make a go of things with Erik, Jessica has to act, or risk losing the man she’s started to fall for. If you want to follow my progress, I'll be taking part in WIP Joy and posting writing updates on my social medias. That's all folks! That about covers it for this month, and it's almost time to make dinner, so I'm going to head off, but I'll be back in a month with a new update! |
